Osifo’s move follows his earlier declaration to seek the APC’s presidential ticket, positioning himself as a contender in a race that could see him challenge incumbent President Bola Tinubu, who has continued to receive endorsements within the party.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Osifo rejected suggestions that his ambition is being backed by the president. He insisted he has no financial or political ties to Tinubu and urged anyone with evidence to make it public.
He said his decision to run is driven by personal conviction, adding that he has maintained a clean political record without any involvement in anti-party activities.
Osifo also argued that endorsements from party leaders do not override constitutional guidelines governing candidate selection, stressing that he remains committed to pursuing the ticket despite growing support for the incumbent.

The APC has scheduled its presidential primary for mid-May, with nomination forms priced at N100 million, covering both expression of interest and nomination fees.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, party primaries and related disputes are expected to be concluded before the end of May 2026, while campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections will commence in August ahead of the 2027 polls.
