EKO HOT BLOG reports that Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, has told the public that the investigation into the death of Osinachi Nwachukwu is progressing.
The death of the well-known gospel singer sparked widespread outrage, with residents and organizations demanding a full inquiry.
The IGP said the singer’s death was heartbreaking during a meeting with Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, at his office in Abuja on Wednesday.
He stated that information from family sources and independent witnesses pointed to Osinachi’s husband, Peter Nwachukwu, as the perpetrator of her death.
According to Baba, Peter was arrested at their residence in Lugbe, Abuja, around 5 p.m. on April 10 by the FCT Command, in whose jurisdiction the incident occurred.
The suspect is currently being held by the Command as the inquiry continues.
The command has sought the National Hospital in Abuja for post-mortem examinations, according to the IGP, because of the sensitive nature of the case and the need for justice.
Baba stated that this would determine the cause of death, and Peter would be charged in court if it was determined that he was to blame for her death.
The police chief went on to say that it is both illegal and immoral for anyone to take another person’s life in any way.
