- The Seyi Makinde-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is expected to unveil a 10-member caretaker committee today, reportedly led by Tanimu Turaki (SAN).
- Factional Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, stated the board stepped in to stabilize the party following a Supreme Court ruling that invalidated a previous leadership convention.
- Sources indicate that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is expected to formally declare his 2027 presidential ambition within the week.
The internal rift within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has deepened as the faction loyal to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde prepares to inaugurate a caretaker committee during a scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting today.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Tanimu Turaki, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, emerged as the preferred choice to head the 10-member committee following a BoT meeting in Abuja on Sunday.

Former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, leading the factional BoT, asserted that the party would not surrender to “political brigands” and claimed the board has secured the two-thirds majority required to convene the NEC.
This move follows a 3–2 split judgment by the Supreme Court on April 30, which nullified the Makinde-backed national convention held in Ibadan in November 2025.
The court ruled that the convention had breached existing orders, effectively leaving the faction without a recognized leadership structure until this current intervention.

Wabara alleged that internal sabotage, orchestrated by individuals working for the APC, aimed to cripple the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, the faction backed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has dismissed the BoT’s actions as illegal.
National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed urged stakeholders to ignore the planned meeting, maintaining that Abdulrahman Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remain the legitimate leaders of the party.
Despite the legal and internal friction, the Makinde camp remains optimistic, with the Governor expected to declare his 2027 presidential run by Saturday.
