EKO HOT BLOG reports that the meeting came less than 48 hours after Jonathan revealed that he was consulting widely on the possibility of contesting the 2027 presidency.
Jonathan made the disclosure on Thursday while addressing a delegation of Nigerians who visited his office in Abuja to urge him to join the presidential race.
Responding to the calls, the former president said the decision to contest for the nation’s highest office was a serious one that required extensive consultations.
“You are asking me to come and contest the next election. The presidential race is not a computer game. But I’ve heard you, and I’ll consult widely,” Jonathan said.
The latest meeting between the PDP factional leadership and the former president is expected to intensify political discussions surrounding the opposition party’s strategy ahead of the 2027 general election.
However, Jonathan’s potential return bid is already facing a legal challenge.
A suit currently before the Federal High Court in Abuja is seeking to stop the former president from contesting the 2027 presidential election.
The case was filed by a lawyer, Johnmary Jideobi, who asked the court to declare Jonathan constitutionally ineligible to seek the presidency again.
According to the suit, the plaintiff is seeking an order restraining Jonathan from presenting himself to any political party as a presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
On April 28, the presiding judge, Justice Peter Lifu, ordered that hearing notices be issued and served on all defendants involved in the matter.

The development has further fueled debate over Jonathan’s political future, with consultations and legal battles already shaping early conversations ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
