PDP Postpones NEC Meeting, Sets Sights On Ondo Election
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, originally scheduled for October 24, to November 28, 2024.
The decision followed a four-hour meeting of party stakeholders at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that addressing journalists after the meeting, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed explained that the postponement was necessary to allow the party to focus on the upcoming Ondo State Governorship election, slated for November 16.
He emphasized the importance of party unity and strength in unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo. “The postponement will ensure that the party enters the Ondo gubernatorial election unified and prepared to defeat the APC,” he said.
The meeting also addressed the need for party members to avoid divisive rhetoric, urging all stakeholders to work together to strengthen the party in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
Key organs of the party, including the PDP Governors’ Forum, Board of Trustees, National Working Committee (NWC), and the National Assembly Leadership of the PDP Caucus, were present at the meeting.
In addition, reports suggest growing efforts within the PDP to extend the tenure of the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.
While a prior consensus had been reached for Damagum to step down during the NEC meeting, factions within the party, led by Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, are pushing for him to remain in office until after the Ondo election, offering him a “soft landing.” This plan appears to be gaining traction among Damagum’s supporters.
