Prince Kabir Olaoye Drags Oba Ghandi to S’Court

- Kabir Olaoye had previously contested Oba Olaoye’s nomination and selection in a 2022 suit, citing various breaches of the Soun Chieftaincy Declaration, among other concerns.
- Despite the ongoing legal dispute, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde approved Oba Olaoye’s nomination, leading to his installation by the kingmakers in September 2023.
In a recent development, Ogbomoso prince Kabir Olaoye has decided to escalate his legal battle against the selection of Oba Ghandi Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomoso to the Supreme Court.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the move follows last Tuesday’s Court of Appeal judgment in Ibadan, which affirmed Oba Olaoye’s selection as Soun.

But in a swift reaction, the Oyo State government obtained an injunction stopping the enforcement of the judgment, paving the way for Oba Olaoye’s coronation in December 2023.
In response to the initial Oyo State High Court ruling that overturned Oba Olaoye’s installation as Soun, the state government had lodged an appeal against the judgment.
This led to the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Division, issuing its judgment last Tuesday, which effectively reversed the Ogbomoso court’s decision and validated Oba Olaoye’s position as Soun.
However, Prince Kabir Olaoye remains steadfast in his resolve to challenge the selection process, revealing that he has instructed his legal team to escalate the matter to the Supreme Court.
He said, “I am not satisfied with the judgment of the appeal court. We are not relenting until we reclaim our mandate through the Supreme Court. We are not giving up. Outright, we say no to the judgment given by the appeal court in Ibadan.
“We are going to the Supreme Court. We are not in agreement with the judgment of the appeal court. So, for this reason, we are heading to the Supreme Court.”
