EKO HOT BLOG reports that in Group C, Nigeria faced Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo in a tense encounter. Victor Osimhen put the Super Eagles ahead in the 74th minute, but Zimbabwe refused to back down. Tawanda Chirewa struck deep into stoppage time to snatch a crucial 1-1 draw, leaving Nigeria frustrated.
Elsewhere in the group, South Africa secured a 2-0 victory over Benin Republic in Abidjan, strengthening their qualification hopes. Meanwhile, Rwanda and Lesotho played out a 1-1 draw in a closely contested battle.
In Group D, Cape Verde earned a vital 2-1 win over Angola, while Cameroon demonstrated their attacking strength with a dominant 3-1 triumph over Libya.
Group G saw Uganda edge Guinea 1-0, while Algeria put on a ruthless display, crushing Mozambique 5-1.
Other notable results included Burundi’s emphatic 5-0 thrashing of Seychelles and Botswana’s 2-0 win over Somalia. Egypt kept their qualification hopes alive with a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Sierra Leone, while Sudan and South Sudan played out a tense 1-1 stalemate.
Comoros secured a narrow 1-0 win over Chad, DR Congo defeated Mauritania 2-0, and Senegal overpowered Togo with a 2-0 victory. Morocco wrapped up the day’s action with a convincing 2-0 win against Tanzania.
The qualifiers will resume in September with Match Day 7, as teams continue their quest for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
