The Nigerian Army has warned its personnel against engaging in social media activities, stressing that any soldier found violating the military’s regulations on online conduct would face disciplinary action.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the warning was issued by the Provost Marshal of the Nigerian Army, Major General Mathias Erebulu, during a training seminar organised for Military Police personnel.

Speaking at the event, Erebulu directed commanders and officers commanding various formations to return to their units and sensitise troops on the consequences of misusing social media platforms.
“Our soldiers have no business being on social media. When they violate the social media regulations, they are punished,” he said.
He emphasised the need for discipline among personnel, urging commanding officers to continually remind troops of the rules guiding their conduct online.
The Provost Marshal also addressed the issue of civilian detention by military personnel, reminding officers that the constitution does not permit civilians to be held in military facilities beyond a limited period.

According to him, any civilian arrested by soldiers must be transferred to the appropriate law enforcement agency within 24 hours after preliminary investigations have been conducted.
“By virtue of the constitution, we are not supposed to keep civilians in military detention facilities. Once a civilian is arrested and preliminary investigations are completed, the person must be handed over to the appropriate agency within 24 hours,” he stated.
The seminar focused on operational discipline and professional conduct among Military Police personnel and was aired on AIT’s morning programme, Kakaaki.
