EKO HOT BLOG reports that the motion, sponsored by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Senator Abba Moro, and other South East lawmakers, was debated but ultimately defeated through a voice vote. The Senate had previously declined to consider the motion on Wednesday, citing its absence from the Order Paper.
Addressing journalists after the walkout, Abaribe expressed disappointment, stating that the late Nwosu, former chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), played a crucial role in Nigeria’s democratic history. He argued that the historic June 12 election would not have taken place without Nwosu’s leadership.
“We say that even if it is not done today, another government will do it,” Abaribe stated, urging President Bola Tinubu to honor Nwosu’s contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey.
“He emphasized Tinubu’s reputation as a “June 12 warrior” and called on him to recognize all figures instrumental to the election’s legacy.
