- TikTok’s U.S. future hangs in the balance.
The outgoing Biden administration has announced that the decision to enforce a ban on the popular Chinese app TikTok in the United States will rest with the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump.
Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed this development on Friday following a Supreme Court ruling upholding the law to ban TikTok on national security grounds.

“Given the sheer fact of timing, this administration recognizes that actions to implement the law simply must fall to the next administration,” Jean-Pierre said in an official statement.
The ban, rooted in concerns over TikTok’s alleged links to the Chinese government and potential misuse of U.S. user data, has been a contentious issue in Washington.
Supporters argue that the app poses a significant national security risk, while critics question the evidence supporting those claims.
This decision shifts the spotlight to President-elect Trump, whose administration will now determine whether to move forward with enforcing the ban.
Trump has previously expressed skepticism about China’s influence on U.S. technology and data security, making the future of TikTok in the country uncertain.
The Supreme Court’s ruling has intensified debate around government oversight of social media platforms, particularly those with foreign ownership.
With millions of American users relying on TikTok for entertainment, information, and communication, the app’s potential removal could have far-reaching implications.
