Acting on actionable intelligence from residents of the Kufai Amadu area on December 17, soldiers advanced to the Tyojande axis where the ambush occurred. During the operation, troops made contact with armed assailants near Ange village, about two kilometres from the spot where the corpse of a fallen soldier was later recovered.

The sources said the troops’ superior firepower overwhelmed the attackers, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee into thick vegetation, reportedly using cattle as cover before escaping towards nearby mountainous terrain.
A hot pursuit ensued, leading to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, three empty magazines and another item concealed at different locations within the area.
Troops subsequently advanced on foot through Tyojande and Yumga villages and projected force into Ande and Nbaume communities, all within the Kufai Amadu axis of Takum LGA, where no further contact with the attackers was recorded.
The sources confirmed that the body of a late Lance Corporal was recovered in the Tyojande general area, while search-and-rescue operations are ongoing to locate one soldier still missing.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations in the area to account for all personnel and to deny criminal elements freedom of action.
