Resident doctors at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, have commenced an indefinite strike over power outages in some of the hospital’s residential areas, an official confirmed on Monday.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Dr. Uthman Adedeji, General Secretary of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that while the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) reconnected UCH last Wednesday after over 100 days of blackout, some residential quarters remained without power.

The association had earlier warned that members would embark on an indefinite strike if electricity was not fully restored by 4 p.m. on Monday.

Following an Emergency General Meeting (EGM), ARD UCH resolved to proceed with the strike, citing the partial reconnection as insufficient.

“In light of the prevailing circumstance, we are left with no other option than to embark on the earlier planned total and indefinite strike until all residential quarters are reconnected,” Adedeji stated.
