In a letter addressed to U.S. bishops on Tuesday, the Pope urged Catholics and people of goodwill to reject narratives that promote discrimination and suffering.

He emphasized that migrants often flee their homelands due to extreme poverty, violence, or persecution and should be treated with dignity.

“I have followed closely the major crisis that is taking place in the United States with the initiation of a program of mass deportations,” the Pope wrote.

While acknowledging a nation’s right to protect itself from criminals, he argued that large-scale deportations place many vulnerable individuals and families in even greater danger.

Trump, who recently returned to the White House, has pledged to carry out the largest deportation campaign in U.S. history, aiming to expel millions of undocumented immigrants.

Pope Francis warned last month that such actions would be a “calamity” for countless people.

“This is not a minor issue, an authentic rule of law is verified precisely in the dignified treatment that all people deserve, especially the poorest and most marginalized,” the Pope stated.
