Yobe Police Arrest Suspect for Alleged Child Abuse, Defilement in Damaturu

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 30 year old man for allegedly defiling a nine year old girl in the Nayi Nawa area of Damaturu metropolis.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the arrest in a statement, explaining that preliminary investigations revealed the suspect had repeatedly lured the victim into a shop within the timber shed area of Damaturu.

“The victim was rescued and taken for medical examination, while the suspect is in custody,” the statement read.

“Investigation is ongoing and will be transferred to the Gender Unit at the State Criminal Investigation Department for further action and prosecution.”

The police also announced the arrest of two additional suspects linked to separate cases of robbery and fraud in Damaturu and Bade local government areas.

According to the statement, the suspects confessed to their crimes and will be charged to court once investigations are completed.

Meanwhile, the Command expressed concern over the increasing number of youth clashes in parts of the state, often resulting in serious injuries. It attributed these incidents to farmer herder disputes, drug abuse, and other social vices.

“The Command is intensifying surveillance and proactive policing to address these emerging challenges,” the statement added.
