EKO HOT BLOG reports that the directive was announced on Friday in a statement by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Augustina Godwin, who said the growing wave of kidnappings in parts of the country, especially recent attacks in Kebbi and Niger states, had made boarding schools highly vulnerable.
“In light of the current circumstances, Governor Kefas has issued a directive requiring all secondary schools, both public and private, to function exclusively as day schools for the time being. Principals and school owners have been advised to promptly arrange for the deboarding of all students,” the commissioner stated.
She described the move as a preventive measure aimed at safeguarding students and avoiding any breach linked to the growing unrest across the region.
Godwin stressed that full compliance was expected without delay, adding that the government was monitoring security trends closely and working with relevant agencies to protect schools. She also urged school administrators to increase internal surveillance and enforce strict safety protocols.
The directive comes amid renewed nationwide concern over student safety. Earlier on Friday, terrorists attacked St. Mary’s School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, abducting an unconfirmed number of students and staff.

The attack followed the kidnapping of 25 students from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, where the school’s vice principal was killed.
