EKO HOT BLOG reports that the commission said all applications were reviewed in line with Sections 222 and 223 of the 1999 Constitution as amended, Sections 75 and 79 of the Electoral Act 2022, as well as its Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties.
Following the initial screening, 14 associations met the prequalification requirements and were invited to proceed to the next stage of the registration process. Out of these, only eight associations successfully uploaded the required documents on INEC’s designated portal.
The associations that reached this stage were the All Democratic Alliance, Citizens Democratic Alliance, Abundance Social Party, African Alliance Party, Democratic Leadership Alliance, Green Future Party, National Democratic Party, and Peoples Freedom Party.
After what INEC described as a thorough assessment and verification of compliance with constitutional and legal requirements, only two associations met the final criteria for registration.
INEC confirmed that the Democratic Leadership Alliance fully satisfied all statutory requirements and has been officially registered as a political party with effect from February 5, 2025.
In addition, the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State, in Suit No. FHC L KJ CS 49 2025, ordered INEC to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress. The commission said it has complied with the court directive and formally added the party to the list of recognised political parties.

INEC noted that certificates of registration will be issued to both parties in due course. With the inclusion of the Democratic Leadership Alliance and the Nigeria Democratic Congress, the commission said Nigeria’s political space continues to expand, reflecting ongoing efforts to deepen democratic participation and political pluralism.
