The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) disclosed that the situation worsened during an unprofessional private recovery attempt to remove the immobilised vehicle from the roadway.
According to the agency, the truck eventually overturned during the recovery effort, causing the containers to fall onto the carriageway and obstruct part of the road.
Officials who responded to the scene confirmed that no casualties were recorded.
LASTMA operatives, working in collaboration with other emergency response agencies, quickly intervened to manage the situation and prevent further incidents.
Following a distress alert, the LASTMA Rescue and Recovery Team mobilised to the location and worked with personnel from the agency’s Zone 2 Command to control traffic and safeguard motorists.

To facilitate the clearance of the obstruction, LASTMA temporarily shut the expressway carriageway inward Lagos and deployed a tow truck to the scene.
A heavy-duty crane was also engaged to lift and reposition the fallen containers, enabling a coordinated recovery operation.
After the successful removal of the overturned truck and its containers, normal traffic flow was gradually restored along the corridor.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, later deployed additional personnel to the scene to support emergency responders.
Bakare-Oki reiterated the agency’s commitment to protecting lives, preserving road infrastructure and ensuring safe and seamless movement across Lagos road networks.
