Ikeja Electric on Tuesday reported reduced electricity supply across Lagos, affecting both residents and businesses, due to a nationwide decline in power generation.
In a statement, the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kingsley Okotie, said the drop is linked to insufficient gas supply to thermal power plants, which remain Nigeria’s primary source of electricity, Eko Hot Blog reports.

“The limited gas supply has reduced energy on the national grid, which in turn has affected allocations to Ikeja Electric and other distribution companies,” Okotie explained. He added that this has led to intermittent outages and load shedding across the network.

Okotie assured customers that the company is committed to fair and efficient distribution of the available power.
“We regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate our customers’ patience as efforts continue to improve gas supply and stabilise power generation at the national level,” he said.
The announcement follows complaints from residents and businesses in Lagos over worsening electricity supply, with many reporting frequent and unpredictable interruptions.
