EKO HOT BLOG reports that responding on Tuesday, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the government is taking steps to strengthen security operations in the region.
Onanuga maintained that the administration has continued to equip the armed forces and support ongoing counter-terrorism efforts. He added that both the military and the civilian Joint Task Force remain actively engaged in safeguarding the North East.
“I don’t know what purpose this alarm by Senator Ali Ndume really serves. If he has intelligence that terrorists are planning to attack the entire North East, as a longtime senator, he should pass the information to the military, not engage in scaremongering,” he said.
He further stated that the government is not relenting in its efforts to address insecurity, noting that Nigeria is also working with international partners to strengthen its response.
“The Tinubu government has been equipping the armed forces. It is not miserly about it. In addition to seeking assistance from countries such as the US, UK, France, and Turkey, we are also collaborating with our Sahelian neighbours.
“Our armed forces and the civilian JTF are doing everything humanly possible in waging this guerrilla war against the terrorists to make the North East and the Nigerian people safe.”

The Presidency reiterated its commitment to tackling insecurity, urging stakeholders to support security agencies with actionable intelligence.
