According to the agency, the lanes are strictly reserved for designated BRT buses and vehicles operating under LAMATA-regulated franchises.
The only exceptions remain emergency responders such as ambulances and fire service vehicles when attending to urgent situations.
LAMATA’s Head of Corporate Communication, Kolawole Ojelabi, expressed concern over what he described as a growing abuse of the dedicated lanes.
He noted that unauthorized use by some military and paramilitary personnel, as well as private and council vehicles, is undermining the purpose of the system.
He explained that the BRT lanes were created to ensure fast, safe, and reliable transportation for Lagos residents, and that violations not only disrupt operations but also put passengers at risk and worsen traffic congestion.

The agency made it clear that enforcement will now be strict and without exceptions. Offenders, regardless of status, will face penalties that may include fines, vehicle impoundment, and prosecution under Lagos traffic laws.
For everyday commuters, the message is simple restoring order on BRT lanes is key to improving mobility across Lagos, and authorities say they are ready to act decisively.
