No fewer than five persons have lost their lives while 10 others sustained severe injuries in a fatal road accident that occurred on Thursday at Iyana Egbado along the Abeokuta–Lagos Expressway in Ogun State.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the lone crash, which involved a white Mazda E2000 bus with registration number KRD809XC, reportedly occurred at about 11:12 a.m.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ogun State Sector Command, the vehicle was conveying 20 passengers comprising six adult males, eleven adult females, one male child and two female children at the time of the incident.
The spokesperson for the Ogun FRSC Command, Florence Okpe, disclosed that the accident claimed the lives of two children, one adult male and two adult females, while 10 other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries. Five passengers escaped unhurt.
She explained that FRSC rescue operatives from the Itori Unit Command arrived at the scene within five minutes after the crash was reported and immediately commenced rescue operations.
“The crash occurred at about 11:12 a.m. and was reported at 11:15 a.m. FRSC rescue operatives from RS2.28 Itori Unit Command got to the scene at 11:20 a.m. with a response time of five minutes,” she said.

Okpe stated that preliminary investigation revealed that excessive speeding and overloading were responsible for the crash.
She added that the injured victims were evacuated to General Hospital, Ifo, and Oreofe Specialist Hospital, Itori, for medical treatment, while the corpses of the deceased were deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ifo.
“The probable causes of the crash were speeding and overloading. The road was paved and the weather condition was cloudy at the time of the incident,” she added.
Reacting to the tragedy, the Ogun State Sector Commander of FRSC, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, sympathised with the families of the victims and advised motorists to avoid speeding, overloading and other traffic violations capable of endangering lives.
He further urged drivers to obey traffic regulations, especially during the festive season, stressing that road safety remains a collective responsibility.
