EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Chief Registrar of the court, Yahaya Yakubu Shafa, disclosed this in a notice issued on Thursday.
According to Shafa, the decision became necessary due to the limited timeframe provided for the filing of pre-election matters under the Electoral Act 2026.
He stated that all registries of the Federal High Court would operate between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on weekends and public holidays strictly for pre-election filings.
“This has become expedient to meet up with the limited time frame for filing pre-election matters,” the notice read.
The directive takes immediate effect and applies to all divisions of the Federal High Court across the country.
The court also noted that the Federal High Court has exclusive jurisdiction over pre-election matters under the Electoral Act 2026, meaning State High Courts do not have concurrent powers to entertain such cases.
This makes the Federal High Court registries the only authorised channel for filing pre-election disputes nationwide.

The development comes ahead of the 2027 general elections scheduled for January and February, according to the timetable earlier released by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
