Residents were said to have discovered the lifeless body of the woman and her two children inside a stationary tricycle at about 7:00 a.m., prompting a report to the police.
A resident, identified as Mr. Senibo, said the disturbing discovery drew the attention of passersby and community members.
According to him, officers from the Ozuoba Police Division had already arrived at the scene when he got there.
He further claimed that the older child, believed to be under six years old, told investigators that her father assaulted her mother at a guest house where the family had spent the night.
The child allegedly recounted that her father struck her mother with an object, after which the woman became unresponsive before they were taken away from the guest house.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, said police received information from a passerby who noticed a woman and two children inside a blue tricycle parked by the roadside.
She said a patrol team was immediately dispatched to the location, where officers found the woman’s lifeless body alongside two children aged about five years and six months.

According to the police spokesperson, the older child informed officers that her father had assaulted her mother during the night, leaving her seriously injured.
ASP Agabe stated that the suspect allegedly took the woman to an undisclosed hospital after her condition worsened, but she was later confirmed dead.
She added that the suspect subsequently abandoned the woman’s body and the children inside the tricycle before fleeing.
The deceased was later identified by her sister, who was contacted by the police.
Police said the body has been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy, while custody of the two children has been handed over to the deceased’s sister.
The Command said investigations are ongoing and efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspect.
