The meeting also featured an environmental health talk delivered by Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Ismailia, who educated participants on proper waste management and the dangers associated with poor sanitation.
He explained that indiscriminate waste disposal contributes to flooding, environmental pollution, offensive odors, and the spread of diseases such as malaria, cholera, and typhoid fever.
“Residents should keep their refuse in covered containers and ensure proper disposal through approved channels. Waste should never be dumped in drainage channels, open spaces, or along roadsides because such practices endanger public health,” he advised.
Mr. Ismailia further encouraged residents to maintain clean surroundings and support environmental sanitation initiatives within their communities.
Speaking further, Hon. Akinloye revealed that during a recent meeting with the Governor of Lagos State, local government chairmen were directed to intensify efforts toward tackling waste mismanagement and environmental degradation across the state.
“The Governor expressed concern over the growing challenge of indiscriminate waste disposal and emphasized the need for stronger enforcement measures. Dumping refuse on road medians and unauthorized locations has become a serious offence in Lagos State,” he said.
The chairman announced that Eredo LCDA’s newly acquired waste collection truck would commence operations on Monday and move across communities on a rotational and weekly basis.
“The truck will serve all wards across Eredo LCDA to ensure proper refuse evacuation and a cleaner environment for our residents,” he stated.
He also issued a strong warning to residents against environmental violations.
“The era of indiscriminate refuse dumping is over. Anyone caught mismanaging refuse or disposing waste in unauthorized locations risks a fine of up to ₦100,000. We must all work together to keep our communities clean, healthy, and safe,” Akinloye warned.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Apex Nurse of Eredo LCDA, Mrs. Ismail, delivered a health talk on healthy living and personal wellness.
She encouraged residents to maintain healthy lifestyles through balanced nutrition, regular exercise, proper hygiene, adequate rest, and routine medical check-ups.
“Good health begins with simple daily habits. When we take care of our bodies and surroundings, we reduce the risk of illness and improve our quality of life,” she said.
The stakeholders’ meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from traditional institutions, community leaders, health professionals, and residents to support environmental sanitation, public health awareness, and sustainable development initiatives across Eredo LCDA.
