Speaking to Journalists, Bode Durojaiye, a key member of the team, described the reports as false and misleading.
“This headline is designed to confuse the public and misrepresent the Alaafin throne,” he said, adding that the content of the report does not match the exaggerated headline.
Durojaiye clarified that Oba Owoade has not started the traditional rites for his coronation, which is scheduled for April 4, 2025.
“It is impossible for the Alaafin to abandon rites he hasn’t even begun. The report itself admits this timeline,” he explained.
He also noted that the Oyo State Government is fully aware of the monarch’s movements and supports his decisions, confirming there is no disagreement over his temporary absence.
“Once traditional rites begin, they cannot be paused or stopped. Tradition requires that these rites are completed without interruption,” Durojaiye stated.
Explaining the reason for the Alaafin’s trip abroad, he said the monarch returned to Canada to handle his professional duties and prepare for the coronation.
Durojaiye urged the media to be more careful when reporting on cultural matters, emphasizing the need to respect traditions.
“We must honor our rich heritage and avoid spreading false stories that harm our cultural identity,” he said.
