- The former SGF stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu could, comparatively speaking, end up being a far better Nigerian president than Atiku could ever hope to be.
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal, has launched a fierce public attack against the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, describing him as inept and incompetent.
In a highly critical statement released on his social media handle, Eko Hot Blog reports that Lawal announced his immediate exit from the ADC, asserting that he cannot in good conscience remain part of what he described as Atiku’s rigging machine ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Following his resignation, Lawal disclosed that he is returning to his village in Adamawa State, which is also Atiku’s home state, to consult with political allies on the way forward.
Lawal alleged that the newly concluded ADC primaries across all levels were marred by widespread manipulation and fraud designed to favor the former Vice President.
According to the former SGF, internal election results were either completely fabricated or altered by Atiku’s supporters.
He further claimed that in areas where democratic voting did occur, the actual winners were systematically replaced with members of Atiku’s “syndicate.”
“I am exiting the ADC because its just concluded primaries were at all levels massively rigged in favour of Atiku,” Lawal stated.
He added that he refused to participate in the charade or help build a fraudulent electoral foundation for the 2027 race.

Beyond the party crisis, Lawal accused Atiku and his inner circle of pursuing an agenda centered on ethnic and religious domination, arguing that an Atiku presidency would bring severe detriments to Nigeria.
He went on to assert that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would perform better in office than the former vice president.
Additionally, Lawal leveled sharp criticism at northern political leaders who continue to back Atiku, questioning why the region would support an “ineptocrat” rather than seeking capable leadership to reverse the deep poverty and insecurity currently plaguing the North.
Vowing to fight the candidate’s ambitions, Lawal stated that he will spend the next few weeks refining his future strategies and coordinating with like-minded colleagues to stop Atiku from coming close to the presidential office.
