Banana Island Building Collapse: Mysteries Remain Unraveled As Authorities Still Search For Clues Five Days Later

A seven-storey building collapsed on Wednesday in Lagos.

The initial roll call suggested that only 25 people were at the construction site.

However, emergency workers found a body more than a day later.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Government is yet to ascertain the cause of the collapse of a seven-storey building on Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Recall that the building, which was under construction, collapsed last Wednesday with 26 people affected by the incident.

While 25 people made it out alive with various degrees of injuries, a body was found and recovered later on.
In an update Sunday night, the Lagos Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said excavation had reached about 90% at the site of the Banana Island collapsed building.

“Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) officials are at work on the site. The rubble is being excavated and taken to another area within the compound,” he said.
“At the site are also Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory.
“The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined. Unfortunately, we have recorded one fatality – so far.
