According to party insiders, the move came after high-level deliberations and strategic consultations with apex political leaders, elders, and associates within the constituency and the state chapter of the party.
In his statement, Salawu reaffirmed his unalloyed loyalty to the ruling party and praised President Bola Tinubu for maintaining a disciplined and progressive leadership style that prioritizes collective national and party interests over individual ambitions.
He noted that stepping down from the House of Representatives race was a sacrifice made in the spirit of party supremacy, consensus building, and the preservation of political harmony within the Somolu district ahead of the general elections.

Accepting the development without protest, the former council chief appealed to his extensive political structure and supporters to embrace the decision peacefully.
