Lagos Govt Launches Online Child Abuse Sensitisation Program for Parents

- Lagos Government launches an online child abuse sensitisation program for parents.
- Course covers child rights, bullying, and abuse prevention.
- Over 14,000 educators and responders trained on child protection.
In a statement shared on the agency’s X handle on Tuesday, the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Adejoke Ladenegan-Oginni, said the initiative aims to help parents identify various forms of child abuse and act as a preventive measure.

“This programme empowers parents to protect their children from abuse, including physical and sexual abuse, bullying, and more. It is led by experts in child safeguarding and protection,” Ladenegan-Oginni said.
The course covers key topics such as understanding child rights, addressing bullying and peer violence, managing challenging behaviors, applying positive discipline, and responding to disclosures of abuse. It also explores socio-cultural factors affecting child protection in Nigeria.

Ladenegan-Oginni noted that over 14,000 teachers, guidance counselors, and first responders had already completed safeguarding and child protection training, enhancing their ability to report and address abuse effectively.
“This certified online course aims to enlighten and equip parents with the tools to recognize and prevent abuse, fostering a safer environment for every child,” she added.
