The Lagos State Government has called on motorists to adopt responsible parking habits as it prepares to introduce a structured on-street parking programme aimed at improving traffic flow and creating a safer, more organised parking system across the state.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the appeal was made by the General Manager of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), Mrs Adebisi Adelabu, who said motorists should begin incorporating parking arrangements into their travel plans ahead of the rollout of the initiative.

According to Adelabu, the new programme is designed to promote orderly parking, improve accessibility and enhance efficiency in the management of public parking spaces across Lagos.
She encouraged residents to plan their trips in advance by considering the most suitable means of transportation and identifying approved parking spaces close to their destinations.
“Before leaving home, motorists should think about where they are going, the most suitable mode of transportation and the availability of approved parking spaces nearest to their destination. Parking should become a pre-thought, not an afterthought,” she said.
Adelabu disclosed that LASPA had completed the planning, testing and system improvement stages required for the implementation of the enhanced on-street parking initiative.
She explained that roads designated under the scheme would be clearly marked to indicate approved parking areas, paid parking zones and locations where parking is prohibited.
The LASPA boss also urged motorists to pay attention to traffic signs and road markings, including red lines, single yellow lines and double yellow lines, noting that they are essential for effective traffic management and public safety.
She added that while many Lagos residents already pay for parking in parts of the city, the new system is intended to ensure that such payments are made through a transparent and accountable process.
“Our goal is to ensure that parking payments are made through a structured, accountable system that benefits the public rather than unregulated individuals,” Adelabu said.
She appealed to motorists to support the reforms by complying with parking regulations, observing road signs and embracing responsible parking practices.
According to her, public cooperation will be crucial to the success of the initiative and will contribute to building a more organised, accessible and efficient Lagos.
