NBA superstar LeBron James announced on Wednesday that he is stepping away from social media, citing his concerns over the increasing negativity in U.S. media.
With a massive following of approximately 212 million on Instagram and X, James made the decision following a post shared by Rich Kleiman, the long-time agent of NBA star Kevin Durant.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Kleiman expressed frustration over the prevalent negativity in sports media, stating, “With so much hate and negativity in the world today, it confuses me why some of the national sports media still think that the best way to cover sports is through negative takes.
“I for one find it all a waste of breath.” James resonated with Kleiman’s sentiment and shared the post with a supportive comment: “AMEN!!”
The 39-year-old then confirmed his decision to take a break from social media, adding, “And with that said, I’ll holla at y’all! Getting off social media for the time being. Y’all take care.”
This marks the latest in a series of social media breaks that James has taken, often to focus more on his basketball career.

James’ frustration with online criticism has been evident in recent weeks. During a discussion about the Los Angeles Lakers’ exciting win over the Utah Jazz, where rookie Dalton Knecht impressed with his standout performance, James hinted at the toll of constant online scrutiny.
Despite praising Knecht’s skills and acknowledging his talent from his time at Tennessee, James remarked, “Everybody on the internet calls me a liar all the time. They say I lie about everything. So what am I now? I’ve been said it. I watched him. I watched Tennessee a lot.”
