Eko Hot Blog reports that Barrister Mariam Folashade Anifowoshe is set to be conferred with the chieftaincy title of the Yeye Mofin of Ilara Kingdom, Ilara, Epe Division, Lagos State.
HRM Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara kingdom, will officially confer the title on the Ilara chief at a ceremony on Saturday, December 16, 2023, by 11am.
The conferment ceremony, which is bound to take place at the Royal Palace of the Alara of Ilara-Epe, Lagos will be graced by various traditional rulers within and outside Epe Division, alongside other important personalities.
In an exclusive phone interview with Eko Hot Blog, Barr. Anifowoshe disclosed her joy to be recognised and honoured with a chieftaincy title, and sees it as an opportunity to serve and do more for the community.
“To be recognised and honoured with the title of the Mofin of Ilara Kingdom is something that gladdens my heart, it’s showed that the king is aware of the impacts I’m making in the society and has deemed me worthy to shoulder more responsibilities,” she said.
Expressing joy at being recognized by Oba Ogunsanwo, the legal practitioner vowed to contribute her best to ensure optimal functioning of the justice system.
Acknowledging the honour bestowed upon her as Yeye Mofin in the ancient Ilara Kingdom, she attributed the recognition to her significant contributions to Lagos’ justice system, especially as one of the few females in the field.
“I’m overjoyed to receive a great honour from HRM Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo in recognition of my profession,” she said.
“I pledge to do my best to ensure the justice system operates at its peak. Being acknowledged and honored by my town is immensely gratifying; I couldn’t ask for more. I now hold the esteemed position of Yeye Mofin in the ancient Ilara Kingdom.
“One reason for this honor is my contributions to the justice system in the state, where few females serve. I work diligently in the criminal division, collaborating with the director of the Ministry of Justice to enhance our justice system day in and day out.”
Reflecting on the significance of the Yeye Mofin title as a lawyer in state service, Anifowoshe emphasized her commitment over two decades and expressed determination to encourage and contribute to the community’s progress.
She promised strong performance in her line of duty, aiming for progress and prosperity in the community, particularly for females.
“The Yeye Mofin title is significant, especially for a lawyer in state service—a substantial achievement. Staying dedicated for about two decades, unlike many who leave, is a major factor in my consideration for this honor. I’ve provided legal advice to the best of my abilities,” the attorney stated.
“Although the title was conferred a year ago, the official ceremony is this December. Expect strong performance from me, especially in my line of duty. I aim for progress and prosperity in our community, fostering encouragement for females. I’ll do my best, God willing.”
She further disclosed her happiness for Oba Ogunsanwo’s role in enhancing development in the kingdom, promising to continually rally round the kabiyesi to succeed in during his reign.
“I’m really happy with the acceleration of growth and development in the Ilara community. Our king, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo has done so well in his reign in this kingdom,” Anifowoshe said.
“I’m also glad that I can contribute my own quota to the development of the community but I believe more development can come to the Ilara Kingdom. We cannot be satisfied with state we are currently. One thing is certain, by God’s grace I’ll do my best to support our great king in moving the community forward.”
She acknowledged and prayed for the king for the honour he ascribed to her.
“I won’t fail to appreciate my king, HRM Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo for all his good works and for this honour, I want to say thank you kabiyesi. You shall continue to reign for years to come in sound health and conditions,” she concluded.
Anifowoshe was born into the esteemed Anifowoshe family of Epe Local Government and embarked on a distinguished educational journey that laid the foundation for her illustrious career.
Starting from Islamic Primary School in Epe, she progressed through Epe Grammar School before pursuing a B.A. in History and International Relations and later an MBA at Lagos State University.
Her passion for law led her to earn an LLB and refine her legal expertise at the Nigeria Law School.
Since entering the Lagos State Civil Service in 2000, Barr. Anifowoshe has dedicated over two decades to public service and currently holds the position of Assistant Director in the Ministry of Justice.
Beyond her legal career, she is a successful entrepreneur, establishing ventures like F.S Legal Property and Consult, KFK Super Mart, and KFK Bakery.
With three beautiful children, the Yeye Mofin of Ilara Kingdom finds fulfillment in both her professional and personal life, showcasing her dedication and resilience in contributing to both the legal and business realms.
