EKO HOT BLOG reports that this comes after Justice Binta Nyako, who had previously presided over the case, recused herself in response to Kanu’s request, though the Chief Judge initially rejected her decision.
Kanu had refused to appear in court unless a new judge was assigned, leading to the fresh trial under Justice Omotosho.
His lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, confirmed that the legal team is prepared, but they have not yet been served with the specific charges Kanu will face. According to Ejimakor, the case will start afresh, nullifying all previous proceedings since Kanu’s initial arrest in 2015.

Ejimakor also accused the government of delaying tactics, alleging that they might serve the charges only a day before the hearing to limit preparation time. Despite this, he emphasized that Kanu’s legal team is ready for the trial.
