The Oyo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OYSACA) has stepped up efforts to curb the spread of HIV, malaria and tuberculosis through an integrated community outreach held at Ajegunle Market in Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo Town.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the exercise provided free HIV testing, malaria checks and tuberculosis (TB) screening to traders and residents, as part of the state government’s broader strategy to deepen grassroots health interventions and strengthen disease prevention.

Speaking during the programme, the Coordinating Director of OYSACA, Dr. Wale Falana, explained that the outreach was designed to make essential health services more accessible, especially to individuals who may not have the time or opportunity to visit conventional healthcare facilities.
He noted that beyond testing and screening, prescribed medications were offered to those requiring immediate care, while individuals who tested positive for HIV would be linked to designated treatment centres for continued support and management.
Falana emphasised the importance of knowing one’s health status, describing it as a key step in prevention and effective treatment. He identified citizens, government and health workers as critical stakeholders in the HIV response framework, commending the state government for its support in driving health interventions to the grassroots.
He also encouraged residents to prioritise regular testing and adopt responsible health practices, including avoiding unprotected sexual activities and refraining from sharing sharp objects.

Chairman of Atiba Local Government, Hon. Wahab Waliu Adetunji, represented by the Supervisory Councillor for Health, Hon. Salau Musa, described the initiative as timely and beneficial, particularly for vulnerable residents.
Market leaders, including the Babaloja of Ajegunle Market, Mr. Rasak Oyelayo, and the Iyaloja, Alhaja Fasilatu Motunrayo, praised the agency for bringing healthcare services directly to the market community.
Stakeholders noted that the outreach reflects OYSACA’s sustained commitment to scaling up community-based interventions, promoting early detection, and ensuring equitable access to preventive and treatment services across Oyo State.
