EKO HOT BLOG reports that Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, confirmed the development after a closed-door meeting with Obi at the Bauchi Government House.
Speaking after the meeting, Mohammed expressed his willingness to work with Obi, commending his leadership qualities and economic vision.
“We have a lot of respect for him because of his political style, statesmanship, and deep knowledge of the economy. We believe in his vision for unity and good governance,” he said.
Mohammed noted that their discussion covered political strategies, including the situation in Rivers State and the broader need for a strong opposition.
“This is not our first meeting. We previously met in Abuja, and today’s discussion is a continuation. The opposition must unite to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative,” he added.
Obi stated that his visit to Bauchi was part of ongoing consultations to address national challenges.
“Our country is in dire need of leadership. The North is critical to getting it right. We must tackle poverty, education, and security. Without addressing poverty, we cannot solve criminality,” he said.
Obi criticized the current political climate, arguing that leaders were focused on budget controversies rather than urgent national issues.
Meanwhile, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) confirmed discussions for an alliance ahead of 2027.
CUPP National Secretary, Peter Ahmeh, emphasized the need for a strong southern candidate to defeat Tinubu.
“If a northern candidate emerges, Tinubu will win before noon. The South should complete its eight-year tenure,” he stated, identifying Obi as the best candidate.
He added that a strong opposition coalition, including northern leaders, would increase electoral chances.
PDP Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, urged opposition parties to set aside egos and form a coalition, warning that selecting a candidate could be contentious.

The Labour Party (LP), however, distanced itself from coalition talks, stating that any discussions involving Obi were personal and not party-driven.
