The Rotary Club of Gbagada, led by its President, Rotarian Oluwatosin Olawoyin, and Chief Mrs. Ogundele Abosede, the Iya-Alaje of Hollow Way Market, Oke Arin, alongside other distinguished members of the club, organized a free medical outreach on October 23, 2025, at Hollow Way Market, Oke Arin, Lagos. The initiative aimed at providing essential healthcare services to the residents and traders within the community.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that the day was devoted to promoting community wellness through health checks, advice from medical experts and awareness on healthy living. The event highlighted the Rotary Club of Gbagada’s commitment to community health, embodying the saying, ”Health is Wealth”.
The event commenced with an opening speech by the Incoming District Governor, Dr. Olayi Abidoye, who appreciated the community resident for their participation and support, setting a collaborative tone for the activities that followed.

The outreach featured a presentation led by Past Assistant Governor, Rotarian Nike Abdul-Azeez on ”The Importance of Exercise on the Body”, revealing its impact on the overall health of an individual. The audience engaged actively as she demonstrated practical stretches and forms of movement.

However, she emphasized walking as a beneficial daily habit and warned against sitting for more than two hours, which leads to body cramping, reminding the community residents present of the importance of choosing supportive footwear to provide friction and balance, particularly on tiled surfaces.
In her closing remarks, she advised the attendees that moderation in eating complements physical activity, after which a question and answer segment followed, giving residents a chance to seek clarifications and seasoned advice.

The event continued with a presentation on eye health, moderated by one of the medical experts, Dr. Basirat Giwa, a eye specialist who highlighted the value of protecting the sight and staying informed.
Furthermore, Dr. Giwa stressed the importance of regular eye care and updating eyeglasses as vision changes, noting that glasses should be reassessed every five years to maintain comfort and accuracy. She also mentioned that a regular eye check should occur every two years as doctors access vision and other factors to avoid worsen conditions of the eye.
In response to a question asked on diet for eye care, she concluded by reiterating the essence of moderation in diet, linking balanced nutrition to overall well-being and sustained eye health.
Consecutively, another medical expert delivered a brief presentation on stress, described as a silent killer due to its impact on health and daily life. The session provided practical stress-management steps, including taking breaks when needed and regular handwashing, indicating when to seek professional support.
Following this, the Market Secretary commended the Rotary Club of Gbagada for its support and collaboration in promoting health and wellness within Hollow Way Market, Oke Arin community.


Meanwhile, a female representative from Hollow Way Market delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating the Rotary Club of Gbagada, especially, Iya-Alaje, Rotarian Ogundele Abosede whose influence made the outreach a reality.
