Shun Religious Motivated Tensions in the Interest of peace: IMC Tells Nigerians

The Interfaith Mediation Centre, IMC under the Community Initiative for Peace Program, CIPP is appealing to Nigerians to remain calm and imbibe the ideals of their religion to promote Peace, unity and development of the country.

The Executive Co- Directors of the Interfaith Mediation Centre, IMC in Kaduna Pastor Dr.James Wuye and Imam Dr. Muhammad Ashafa Made this known in a statement by the Director Communications of the Center Hayatu N. Ashafa in kaduna state- Nigeria.

According to the statement, the appeal followed the recent report from the Directorate of State Security, DSS about plans by some people to disrupt peace in some locations around the country.

The Statement called on all Nigerian citizens to desist and avoid any negative incitements or propagation of violent conflicts and rise-up to condemn plans that may jeopardize peace in their respective communities.

The IMC Executive Co- Directors urged people of faith to help create an atmosphere where present and future generations will co-exist with mutual respect and trust with one another.

They called on religious leaders, institutions as well as ethnic nationalities to imbibe the culture of peaceful coexistence and harmonious understanding amongst it members across the country.

The Statement further emphasized the need for peace among community of faith in the country, noting that religious or denominational segregation is a blind division that should be avoided.

It urged people to desist from using their various religion negatively to promote chaos, mischief and evil hegemony in all strata of the society.

The Interfaith Co- Directors in the Statement called on religious leaders to use their pulpits to admonished their followers on the values of peace, love, compassion and respect for the sacredness and dignity of human life irrespective of religion and tribal affiliation.

It emphasized the need for Nigerians to spread the tidings of peace and tolerance and raise awareness of any intolerance that is prevalent within various communities in Nigeria and around the world.
