The Vatican is reportedly preparing for Pope Francis’ funeral as concerns grow over his health, with the 88-year-old pontiff warning he may not survive his battle with pneumonia.
According to Swiss newspaper Blick, the Swiss Guard, responsible for the Pope’s security, has been placed under curfew as they rehearse funeral proceedings in anticipation of his passing.

Pope Francis previously stated that he had “already prepared” his tomb, though the location and design of his grave would break with longstanding tradition.
The latest concerns over his health emerged after he was rushed to Rome’s Gemelli hospital on Friday following days of resisting medical attention at the Vatican. He was reportedly experiencing severe chest pain.
Doctors diagnosed him with a “complex” respiratory infection, leading to the cancellation and rescheduling of his papal audiences this week.
The Vatican later confirmed that he is battling pneumonia and asthmatic bronchitis, requiring cortisone antibiotic treatment.

“Laboratory tests, a chest X-ray, and the Holy Father’s clinical condition continue to present a complex picture,” the Vatican stated, adding that the situation is particularly concerning given that Pope Francis had part of his lung removed years ago.
Italian Cardinal Angelo Comastri, 81, reassured the faithful about the Pope’s state of mind, telling broadcaster Rai: “Francis is very calm. His helm is in the hands of the Lord.”
