VOHAF makes case for people affected by leprosy

Voice of Humanitarian Aid Foundation(VOHAF) has urged Nigerians to show love and care to people affected by leprosy rather than stigmatising or discriminating against.

National Coordinator of VOHAF, Evangelist Franca Emekobum, said this during an Easter sensitisations outreach to Okobaba Leprosy Centre in Lagos.

According to her, “early detection and treatment will prevent deformities so there should be no room for discrimination. What we are saying today is that no more discrimination and stigmatisation.

“We should show care and love to people affected by leprosy and their family members. They have rights just all Nigerians and we need to recognise these rights and promote the rights.

“We have so many people affected by leprosy and they have been medically certified healthy but the major challenges they have is empowerment to begin a new life.

“We are using this opportunity to appeal to well-meaning Nigerians, corporate organization to partner the Foundation in a quest to empower people affected by leprosy. The support can be financial or sponsor of their vocational training.”

Emekobum said God has given the Foundation the mandate to rehabilitate and reintegrate people affected by leprosy and their family members back into the community where they have been neglected.
