The Honourable Minister of Education, Chief (Dr) Maruf Olatunji Alausa (FAMedS), CON, has been conferred with the honorary chieftaincy title of Mene Zinakpa I of Tai (The Academic Star I) by His Royal Majesty, King Samuel L. A. Nnee, Gbenemene Tai Kingdom, and the Kpite Council of Traditional Rulers in Rivers State.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the honor was bestowed in recognition of Dr Alausa’s outstanding service and contributions to Nigeria’s education sector, was celebrated by the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, the Permanent Secretary, Mr Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, and the entire management and staff of the Federal Ministry of Education.

Speaking on behalf of the ministry, Professor Ahmad described the conferment as “a well-deserved recognition of Dr Alausa’s visionary leadership and transformative contributions to national education reform under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.”
She expressed appreciation to His Royal Majesty and the Kpite Council of Traditional Rulers for honouring Dr Alausa, noting that the gesture reflected the gratitude of the Tai Kingdom for his pivotal role in facilitating the establishment and take-off of the Federal University of Environment and Technology (FUET), Koroma/Saakpenwa, Ogoni.
Professor Ahmad commended the traditional council for recognising merit and excellence, stressing that such gestures strengthen collaboration between traditional institutions and the Federal Government in promoting education, unity, and sustainable national development.

In his remarks, Chief (Dr) Alausa expressed deep appreciation to King Samuel L. A. Nnee, the Council of Chiefs, and the people of Tai Kingdom for the honour. He also thanked Chief (Prof.) Don M. Baridam, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, FUET, who conveyed the university’s recognition of his significant contributions to education and national growth.
Dr Alausa reaffirmed his commitment to the continued growth and rapid development of FUET as a flagship institution for environmental research, innovation, and human capital development. He said the university would serve as a model for excellence and a driver of environmental sustainability and economic empowerment for the Ogoni people and Nigeria at large.
The Federal Ministry of Education staff collectively described the conferment as a historic and well-merited recognition of Dr Alausa’s patriotism, innovation, and dedication to the advancement of education in Nigeria.
