Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has emphasized his administration’s dedication to enhancing legal and institutional measures to protect consumers in Lagos State.
Speaking at the World Consumer Rights Day celebration organized by the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency under the theme “Safe Products, Confident Consumers,” Sanwo-Olu highlighted the critical role of consumer protection in promoting public safety, economic stability, and social justice, Eko Hot Blog reports.

The governor stressed that Lagos, as a major commercial hub in Nigeria and one of Africa’s largest consumer markets, has a responsibility to ensure that products and services are safe, reliable, and fairly marketed.
“Every safe product builds trust. Every protected consumer strengthens the economy. Every confident consumer contributes to a healthier and more prosperous society,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu praised LASCOPA for its role in investigating complaints, resolving disputes, promoting fair trade, and educating the public on consumer rights and responsibilities.

He also called on businesses to prioritize transparency, quality, and safety, while urging consumers to be proactive in safeguarding market integrity.
Folashade Ambrose, represented by Permanent Secretary Babatunde Onigbanjo, reiterated the government’s commitment to reinforcing consumer protection frameworks, monitoring market practices, and ensuring product safety.
She emphasized that consumer confidence underpins economic growth and innovation, and encouraged residents to report unsafe or suspicious products.

Highlighting the ongoing work of LASCOPA, General Manager Afolabi Solebo called for stronger partnerships and innovative strategies to tackle emerging challenges in product safety and the digital marketplace.
He stressed that protecting consumers from substandard or counterfeit products is essential to sustaining economic development in Lagos State, adding that consumer trust remains a cornerstone of a thriving economy.
