Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has announced his departure from the African Democratic Congress, attributing the decision to escalating internal tensions and what he described as an increasingly difficult political climate.
In a statement shared on Sunday via his X platform, Eko Hot Blog gathered that Obi said his exit was not influenced by personal disagreements with party leaders, including David Mark and Atiku Abubakar, both of whom he said he still holds in high regard.

He explained that ongoing disputes within the party, alongside external pressures, were beginning to resemble the challenges he previously encountered in the Labour Party, prompting his decision to step away.
Obi cited frequent legal battles, internal divisions, and a growing atmosphere of distrust as factors that were distracting from efforts to address pressing national issues.
He also expressed concern about what he described as a political culture where sincerity and commitment to public service are often misinterpreted, adding that individuals working in good faith can become targets of criticism.

The former Anambra State governor maintained that his political involvement is driven by a desire for national progress rather than personal ambition, stressing that his focus remains on building a society that delivers fairness and opportunity for all citizens.
Despite leaving the party, Obi reaffirmed his dedication to Nigeria’s development, expressing optimism that the country can still achieve leadership grounded in accountability, equity, and compassion.
