The South-East Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ray Nnaji, has stated that former President Goodluck Jonathan has not purchased the party’s presidential nomination form ahead of the 2027 election.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Nnaji said claims suggesting Jonathan had entered the race were being driven by individuals attempting to exploit the former president’s political reputation for personal interests.

He made the remarks on Wednesday during a radio programme on Enugu-based Dream FM.
According to the PDP leader, some individuals promoting the narrative that Jonathan had obtained the party’s form and was preparing to contest were merely playing political games.

He alleged that certain people were profiting financially from the speculation and called on security agencies to investigate the matter.
Nnaji acknowledged that Jonathan had previously stated that he was consulting widely on the issue but insisted that the former president had not formally declared any intention to run.
He also dismissed reports claiming Jonathan had already been screened by the PDP, describing such claims as political gimmicks aimed at creating public impressions.
The PDP chieftain further argued that recent legal actions surrounding Jonathan’s eligibility were designed to project him as capable of contesting rather than evidence of an active presidential bid.
He called on agencies such as the police and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to look into the activities of those allegedly benefiting from the speculation.
Nnaji also advised Jonathan against joining the 2027 race, warning that it could damage the statesmanlike image he earned after peacefully handing over power following his defeat in the 2015 election.
Speaking on the internal affairs of the PDP in Enugu State, Nnaji dismissed reports of factional divisions within the party.

He denied claims that the PDP had produced parallel governorship candidates in the state, insisting that only recognised party processes were valid.
According to him, Samson Nnamani and former Minister for Science, Innovation and Technology, Uche Nnaji, both obtained nomination forms and participated in the screening process before events leading to Nnamani’s suspension.
Nnaji explained that disciplinary action was taken against Nnamani after he allegedly violated provisions of the party’s constitution through public statements considered anti-party activities.
He said petitions were submitted against Nnamani and that the politician failed to appear before the party to defend himself when invited.
The PDP leader added that despite his suspension, Nnamani allegedly organised a separate group claiming to have suspended another aspirant, an action he described as invalid.
According to Nnaji, the official governorship primary conducted by a team from the party’s national headquarters was supervised by Austin Nwachukwu from Imo State.
He maintained that the names of duly elected candidates, including Uche Nnaji, had already been forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
