EKO HOT BLOG reports that the development was confirmed to PUNCH Online on Sunday by the President of the Borno South Youth Alliance (BOSYA), Samaila Kaigama, who said the captives were freed on June 6.
Kaigama, whose group has reportedly acted as an intermediary between the terrorists and affected families, said efforts and prolonged dialogue contributed to the release of the victims.
“BOSYA has secured the release of all the Ngoshe 416 women and children. They were released 06 of June,” he said.
“We are happy and grateful that through our efforts, our persistent cries, and long discussions, the results are now being seen.”
He added that relevant authorities, including the Federal Government, Borno State Government and local government officials, should ensure proper screening and profiling of the released victims.
Attempts to reach the Borno State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Usman Tar, for official confirmation were unsuccessful as calls were not answered as of press time.
The victims were among those abducted following an attack on Ngoshe on March 4, during which suspected insurgents reportedly stormed a military base in the community.
During the attack, operational vehicles were burnt, security personnel were dispersed, and an unspecified number of people were killed, while several others were taken away by the attackers.
The latest release marks a significant development in ongoing efforts to resolve cases of mass abductions linked to insurgent activities in the North-East region.

Security observers say the screening of the freed victims will be critical in determining their condition and ensuring proper reintegration into their communities.
