A coordinated manhunt has been launched by security agencies following the escape of two inmates described as politically exposed suspects from the Security Custodial Centre in Jimeta, Yola, Adamawa State, Eko Hot Blog reports.
According to security sources, the two detainees escaped from the facility after being held for about three weeks following a security operation targeting suspected political thugs in the Mubi area.

The suspects were among those arrested during a crackdown initiated by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri as part of efforts to dismantle criminal groups allegedly involved in political violence and other security-related offences in the state.
Sources said Governor Fintiri, who had earlier vowed to deal decisively with those behind violent crimes in Adamawa, was angered by the development and directed security agencies to intensify efforts to recapture the fugitives.
Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have since commenced a joint operation to track down the escaped suspects.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Correctional Service has yet to issue an official statement explaining the circumstances surrounding the escape.
Journalists who visited the Adamawa State headquarters of the service in Jimeta were unable to obtain comments from officials.
The state Comptroller, Abduljalil Odunlami Ajani, was reportedly away on official duty when inquiries were first made. A deputy public relations officer later said he was not authorised to comment on the incident, while another visit on Monday revealed that the comptroller was absent and the spokesperson was indisposed.
Authorities have continued investigations into the incident as efforts to locate and re-arrest the escaped inmates intensify.
