Abia Police Clarify Labour Party Leader’s Arrest Amid Impersonation Claims
The Abia State Police Command has clarified the circumstances surrounding the arrest of the Labour Party’s National Vice Chairman for the South-East, Ceekay Igara, on Saturday, stating that he was invited following a petition from the party’s acting state chairman accusing him of impersonation.
This clarification was made in a statement issued by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, on Sunday.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to the statement, Igara, along with three others, was invited by the police for alleged conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, impersonation, and obtaining by false pretence.
The statement reads: “The Abia State Police Command received a written petition from the Labour Party’s Acting State Chairman against Mr. Ceekay Igara and three others for alleged impersonation, obtaining by false pretence, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.”
The police further revealed that Igara was questioned by detectives from the command and released the same day after giving his statement, while the investigation remains ongoing.
“Yesterday, 19/10/2024, detectives from the Command invited Mr. Igara to the Command Headquarters, took his statement, and released him the same day. Investigation is ongoing,” the statement added.
Earlier, the Labour Party leadership had called for Igara’s release, alleging that he was arrested on the orders of Abia Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, a claim made in a statement issued by the party’s Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, on Saturday in Abuja.
