  • The family of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State to focus on completing projects started by the late governor.
  • They believe this is the best way to honor Akeredolu’s legacy in the state.
  • The family criticized the premature naming of an unfinished judicial complex after Akeredolu.

The family of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has called on Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to complete the development projects initiated by the late governor. They see this as a meaningful way to preserve Akeredolu’s legacy and continue his work in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Babajide Akeredolu expressed disapproval over naming the proposed Judicial Complex after his father before its completion. He described the move as premature, emphasizing that true respect lies in completing the project and making it functional.

“True immortality lies in action, not empty gestures. If the current government wants to honor my father’s legacy, they should ensure the projects he started are finished,” Babajide said.

He also highlighted other key projects requiring attention, such as upgrading Rufus Giwa Polytechnic to a university, completing the Akure flyover, and resolving salary discrepancies for civil servants. These, he said, were crucial steps to fulfilling the vision of the late governor.

The Akeredolu family also raised concerns over the lack of communication and involvement in a memorial lecture organized by the state government. Babajide clarified that the family had planned their remembrance event and informed the government in advance, only to learn about the state’s event on social media three days before it occurred.

“This lack of courtesy and respect is deeply disappointing,” Babajide said, questioning whether the oversight was deliberate or due to poor advice from the governor’s aides.
