According to a joint statement released after the meeting, both countries have taken significant steps toward achieving lasting peace in Ukraine.
The agreement marks a potential turning point in the conflict, which began in February 2022 when Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Since then, the war has led to heavy casualties, widespread destruction, and a humanitarian crisis affecting millions of people.
The statement also revealed that the United States would communicate with Russia, urging Moscow to take reciprocal steps to ensure the success of the ceasefire. Additionally, Washington announced that it would immediately lift restrictions on intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine, which had been paused in recent months.
