EKO HOT BLOG reports that the lawmakers, Lanre Afinni and Sylvester Ogunkelu, were summoned following the controversial removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa on January 13, 2025.
According to reports, the DSS interrogated the lawmakers at its office in Magodo, Lagos. While details of their invitation remain unclear, sources disclosed that other legislators accompanied them to the DSS office in solidarity.
A DSS source, who is not authorized to speak on the matter, confirmed their invitation, stating, “They were just invited for questioning.”
Obasa was impeached by a majority of lawmakers over allegations of misconduct, abuse of office, and financial misappropriation. He was immediately replaced by the former deputy speaker, Mojisola Meranda.
However, his removal has sparked controversy within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos. A member of the party’s Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Muraina Taiwo, has described the impeachment as illegal and a violation of party leadership protocols.
Obasa, who represents Agege Constituency 1, has also rejected the impeachment, insisting that due process was not followed. During a press conference at the Speaker’s Lodge in Ikeja, he said, “I strongly believe I am still the Speaker until the right thing is done. If you want to remove me, do it properly, and I will not contest it.”
Reacting to the crisis, Taiwo urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene, stating that the dispute had divided the GAC leadership.

“The lawmakers’ action is illegal. It shows total disregard and clear disrespect for leadership,” he said in a statement on Wednesday. “The GAC is now polarized, but we will defer to our de facto leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to resolve the crisis.”
