Residents of Agenebode, the headquarters of Etsako East Local Government Area in Edo State, set fire to a police station on Sunday following the abduction and murder of a young boy.

A local source, speaking anonymously, revealed that the unrest stemmed from allegations that Fulani herdsmen were involved in kidnappings and organ harvesting, with claims that the police were shielding the suspects.

EKO HOT BLOG reports the situation escalated after the kidnapping of a young boy. Although a ransom was paid, the boy was not released and was later found dead.

Community youths traced the phone of the suspect, who was apprehended and handed over to the police. The suspect was linked to the head of the Fulani community. Dissatisfied with the police’s handling of the case, the youths took the suspect from the station to the Fulani leader’s house.

The suspect reportedly confessed to several kidnappings and killings, revealing that victims’ bodies had been buried after their organs were harvested.

Angry residents uncovered the boy’s decomposing body in the compound of the Fulani leader, along with other human remains.

Enraged, they set the leader’s house and several Hausa/Fulani businesses on fire before burning down the police station.

One of the youths expressed frustration, saying, “Enough is enough. They kidnap our children, collect ransom, and still kill them.”

Authorities, including the Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 5 and the Edo State Commissioner of Police, have since visited the area to restore order. The police spokesperson, Moses Yamu, said further updates would follow.
